That was brilliant! So, if I've got this right, it's the gravitational pull of the hole that 'snacks' the star, sort of sucking it in? And if that's right, where does all the matter of the star end up? Just whizzing round and round inside the hole? And why does the black hole seem as if it's got two sides to it, like, in and out?

I'm fascinated by stuff like this since I got together with Shane. Reading some of the science journals whenever I can! He's opened up a whole new world for me and I'm loving it. :)

Woooooo Sue I’m soooo delighted to see you get interested in science woooo woooooo. When matter falls into a black hole it compresses into a singularity – in short it’s gone. The black hole is a sphere and so it has a north and south pole. Whenever it “snacks” on a star the star explodes with immense energy, sort of like filling your cat’s water bowl with a fire hose. Not all of it can fit into a point of infinite density some of it would escape with a violent explosion and that’s what you see.
