I’ve received an invitation today by the president of Parc Safari Monsieur Jean-Pierre Ranger, to come on July 9th 2008 – 11:30 a.m. and have a peek at the three newly arrived white lions.

Also present are
Dr. Michel Hébért, le Haut-Commissionaire de l’Afrique Sud,
Dr. Abraham S. Nkomo.
Linda Tucker President GWLPT

These are not albino lions these are truly white lions. Chris McBride researched their family history back to 1974.
These lions are since October of last year protected by the Global White Lion Protection Trust, Linda Tucker President.
More researches on these rare and delicate lions will be done to ensure their survival. There are now only 150 white lions in South Africa.

I’m sooooo excited to have that chance to see these lions up close.
The invitation is for 4 and of course MrWabbit and my kids will come along with me. My daughter Vikki who is a Bio-med Analyst will be thrilled when she gets this news. She’ll be back from her vacation from Maine, U.S.A. (whale watching) in the right time.
Lunch is also served.

Thank you Vic, I'll be sure not to forget my camera, and I'll also have to phone tomorrow to confirm I accept the invitation for 4 or we won't get any lunch haha.

That's why I want MrWabbit to also go there, while we talk biology he can take a tour and see all the other animals since he loves animals so much.
Kenny may not be able to come down from up north but I'll send him a copy of the letter I have received. (The invitation card above is the card I need to show at the gate, I didn't post the letter that came along with it.)

Nancie I probably have the worst camera from all our Multiply family haha. I'm rummaging through my son's room ( a no no I know) but just to possibly find the old polaroid, I'll even settle for the old little Brownie) haha. I heard that these throw away cams also take some fantastic pictures. I might reach for a couple of those lol

Yes Wabbit...
Get a good Jap disposable 35mm camera...
Richaed Avedon (probably the best known contemporary Photographer) always carries one wherever he goes... he says they take Great photos, and I agree... I don't have a dive camera, and I bought a waterproof disposable for a trip once and it did Awesome photos...

I so agree with you Freya - we're even beginning to lose the maneless lions, their numbers are also drastically down

I have always loved the "big Cats"

Good luck with the pics of those beautiful lions, Trudi. Frame close and try not to include intrusive background. :) If you can't get close enough with the lens you have, crop the pic.

Ian. :)

Thanks for the helpful hints Ian, I'm afraid I'll never be a good photographer but I'll try my best to get some decent pictures. And yes I'll probably be doing a lot of cropping, these lions are cute but ahem they *are* wild. That's something like a ferel cat intensified ten fold hehe.

You *are* a good photographer Trudi. :) And yes, they are very big fierce pussy cats. That's why you would do better with a camera with a zoom lens.

Ian. :)

Just tagged along from Sani's page...this is really interesting.
Shoot, I'm just down the road from Parc Safari. I'm going to have to get mr.floozie interested in going to see these marvelous beasties.
Nice pictures.

Went to our Lion Park at Lanseria, Johannesburg last year, and 33% of their Lions are now White, due to a certain gene (carried by some of their Lion Males), which is automatically passed on to all other subsequent generations......
Took a lot of photographs of them, feel free to browse :

Lol, you know what my 85 year old dad told me last year when I told him I was going to South Africa on Safari... Your wallet would have been healthier if you had just gone to the Parc Safari! So wise daddy, I love is pince-sans-rire humour. So right of course. It will be a great event. I have been able to take pictures of lions in South Africa but from very far, I could barely seen them without looking into the objective, actually if I remember well, I had to guess to orient the camera, and just press the button, looking afterwards if the shot was good. Parc Safari is a great place to bring the family, and save a lot of energy, time and money if seeing the animals is your only interest in going to South Africa.

Seeing the animal in their natural habitat is an experience I will never forget, specially the face to face with the king elephant, looking eye to eye, feeling his grace.

Enjoy the encounter with the white lions and other marvels of the animal world.
